I just printed the entire statement and was discussing it with my dad - we're not impressed. In fact, skeptical.

My family are Malay Singaporeans. National day there is a sad day for Malays. We're insignificant. All the meritocracy talk is bullshit. Similar to the Malaysian government, Singapore practices a form of favouritism as well. The difference is that they practice it behind doors and whenever someone questions it, they just sweep it under the carpet.

The ASEAN scholarship is a glaring example. The scholarship provided by the Singaporean government is so called granted to top students within the region. But if you look at the enrollment, everyone's a Chinese.

I am no racist, sexist or communist. And I believe that this goes to the majority Malays which are very tolerant and accomodating. But realizing that not everyone is like me, downright kindness is just going to eat you up.

There's a Malay saying: 'Buat baik berpada-pada, buat jahat jangan sekali'. My mum reminds me of this saying a lot. And now it's my turn to remind my fellow Malays.
