I like what Yusri Mohamad, the President of ABIM, said about Malaysia being “an Islamic state in practice”. In particular, the following statement taken from this report:
Notwithstanding the constitutional and theoretical debates, Malaysia has been an Islamic state in practice ever since Independence, said the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM). Its president Yusri Mohamad said the so-called Islamisation process has not introduced any significant novelty.
“On the contrary, it seeks to preserve the religious practices and values of its Muslim citizens. The only “changes” that have occurred are in the attitude of those who cannot accept what has already been happening for a long time,” said Yusri when met at ABIM headquarters yesterday.

“Those” who are being described here by Yusri would in my mind refer to a certain Chinese chauvinist political party which was responsible for starting May 13th, the notoriously Islamophobic movement which calls itself “Article 11″ as well as several other individuals and internet activists which we shall not bother to mention here at this juncture.
The parties concerned can dream on, I would say. If they want to turn Malaysia into a secular state, it can only be done over my dead body.

Where is the correlation and connection ? I'm pretty sure you didn't read the May 13 book to make such a bold statement

Please read the constitution and educate yourself. Its alright to have your own opinion to things but its another thing to blatantly insult other when fact/ prove show otherwise.
Malaysia is already a secular state if you by the constitution what your going to do now? Play dead? Are you sure you are god fearing?

Islamic state/country, secular state/country……these are all semantics! Malaysia is and has been 'islamic' since day 1. You non-muslims better accept the fact that whatever rights & freedom you have left remain at the pleasure of muslims. Don't you think they'd love to eliminate all that's left and have you conform to their vision of a totally islamic Malaysia? Beware the myriads of 'hot-heads' who are anxiously waiting in the wings to usurp power and transform Malaysia into the likes of IRAN & S. ARABIA!
Religion & politics are a bad mix….such concoction created untold death & destruction in The Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq, just to name a few. Northern Ireland went thru hell, but the catholics still hate the protestants!
Let's hope & pray that cool heads will prevail in Malaysia, that when you give a foot…..ask only for an inch!
